aceart currently has an installation on consisting of a gigantic, wooden slope constructed in the gallery. things i have witnessed on the slope in the last five days include:

*a secret film screening

*a concert of accordion-based music with improvisational tuba, slope-as-group-percussion implement, and slide projection, also featuring a significant number of people waltzing

*liz from aceart playing the theme from beverley hills cop on keyboard with amanda from urban providing dance moves

*this, this, and this

there's also plans for a giant pie fight in the next few weeks. winnipeg is basically the best.

yeah, at first i was all "big woo, it's a slope". now i've come to realize that it may be the best art installation of all time.

ooo and that current exhibit really seems to deal a lot with my academic research (bodily experience of space and intervening in the way culture programs our bodies' movement through architecture).

because you don't live in winnipeg, it's possible you didn't see this work 86,000 times like i did: http://www.cardiffmiller.com/artworks/inst/paradise_institute.html

it was canada's entry to the venice biennale (put together by winnipeg's plug in gallery) in 2001.

how wonderful is this - please keep me (us all?) updated on this kind of stuff - i plan to start traveling to lots of different American cities in this next year - i'd love to get more art and city viewing in.

(am i the only one who read the beginning as uber queer? Reminded me a bit of Touch [the short film that's full of trigger warnings]...)

i'll pm you the download links - it's quite a wonderful indie short if, like i said, you're ok with the entire thing being a trigger warning
